Changes at Center for Faith and Culture

Please join me in congratulating Fr. Chris Valka, CSB, who has been named the new local Basilian Superior of Keon House and will assume a key leadership role in guiding the Basilian Fathers in Houston. At my request, Fr. Chris has agreed to take on new University responsibilities in light of that change and his proven abilities. He will help nurture key University relationships, such as those with the Archdiocese, Catholic apostolates, community groups, and others. He will also devote time and effort to our Campus Ministry initiatives, serve as University Chaplain and play an integral part in the Basilian leadership here at UST.

Please also join me in thanking Fr. Dave Bittner for his service last academic year as University Chaplain. He has accepted expanded duties in support of the Congregation of St. Basil and will continue to be active with the University community.

Jan Skrehot, Associate Director of the Center for Faith and Culture, has accepted my request to serve as the CFC’s Interim Director until a new director is named. I am grateful for her leadership and willingness to temporarily expand her role. A search committee will convene soon. The Center Director will report directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Thank you for your commitment to our students and all you do to move the University of St. Thomas forward.
