Celts Show Up for Students in Time of Need

GIVINGDAY_600x300On April 28, more than 350 donors rallied raising more than $205,000 for University of St. Thomas students on Giving Day. This Giving Day surpassed last year’s Giving Day total by more than $100,000.

Giving Day is an annual initiative that unites students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents and friends in supporting areas throughout the university such as annual scholarships, the arts, athletics and study abroad. “I loved the opportunity Giving Day provided for the community to come together virtually and rally behind our students. As a donor that supports multiple scholarships and programs across campus, it was great to have a one-stop shop to support the causes that are meaningful to me,” said Larry Massey, UST Board Member and President of the Scanlan Foundation.

This year, a primary focus of Giving Day was student scholarship support through the CeltCare Fund, which helps students fulfill their educational goals during the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are navigating unchartered waters in philanthropy, and it was such an inspiration to see our community come together in support of our students,” Dawn Koenning, Chief Development Officer for UST, said. “Our students are facing such severe hardships, and we are simply blessed to be able to help meet some of their needs through Giving Day.”

The Cullen Trust for Higher Education contributed to the tremendous success on Giving Day by offering several matching grants.

The Cullen Trust for Higher Education is committed to meeting the needs of our community during this pandemic. We have a great desire to support the deserving students of University of St. Thomas and were delighted to be able to provide matching grants for this record-breaking Giving Day.
