Where Doctrine and Tradition Converge<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n

Modeled on the integrated vision of St. John Henry Newman, the re-launched MA in Theology program at the University of St. Thomas, offered in-person and live online in the evenings, seeks to immerse students of all ages deep in the Catholic intellectual tradition.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

STUDY THE GREATS<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students study the writings of the great Fathers and Doctors of the Church always within the context of Church teaching and the perennial questions of faith and reason that remain relevant today. The outstanding theology professors at UST bring into dialogue the greatest theologians in the tradition, including the Eastern Fathers, Augustine, Bonaventure, Thomas and the most relevant modern thinkers.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This engagement with the tradition is never dry and dusty, but always rooted in the great theological and philosophical questions that remain alive from age to age, and especially in our day amid the ongoing challenge of secularism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

MAKING THE TRADITION COME ALIVE<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This approach makes the tradition come alive. The Trinitarian debates of the 4th century that engaged the Cappadocian fathers, the conversion of St. Augustine that has captivated the Christian world for centuries, the medieval acquisition of Aristotle and the Greeks that structured the thought of St. Thomas and the medievals, and the seminal historical work of St. John Henry Newman are treasures of the Catholic tradition that our students discover anew. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A UNIQUE PROGRAM<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This approach makes the program unique, as it is the only MA in theology program offered by a Newman Guide school that is precisely grounded in this historical approach. Being a Newman Guide school means that UST takes the teachings of the Catholic Church seriously. Doctrine is something that\u2019s not just bracketed and culturally analyzed, but lived, engaged, and treasured. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

UST\u2019s MA in Theology is unique in that it is the only program of its kind that offers students evening classes that are both in-person and live online. Online students participate from all over the country and interact with their professors and class in real-time, with live discussions and interactions. So, online students have nearly the same experience as the in-class students and build relationships with their professors and classmates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

FOR ALL WHO YEARN TO LEARN MORE<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although geared primarily for intellectually engaged lay people of all ages who yearn to learn more about their faith, priests and religious are also valuable members of the program. Classes are offered conveniently in the evenings (one night a week for each class from 5:30 – 8:15 pm CST).  Admission is rolling and students are encouraged to apply any time for fall, spring or summer classes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
