University of St. Thomas Performing and Fine Arts Society celebrated its annual membership drive with a Membership Tea on March 4 at the restored Broadacres home of Kaitlyn and Michael G. Scheurich, MBA \u201999.<\/p>\n

The Society works to provide students at UST access to quality educational opportunities in the arts with scholarships and enhanced programming in music, drama, dance and studio arts. Nearly $30,000 was raised for student scholarships.<\/p>\n

Michele Malloy Honored for Steadfast Support<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Tea, chaired by Gayla Gardner and Sherry Wetsch, welcomed many new members. The Society honored Michele Malloy for her steadfast support of the University, and particularly this cause since the group\u2019s inception in 2008.<\/p>\n

Priscilla Plumb Receives Arts Volunteer Award<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Performing and Fine Arts Society also honored Priscilla Plumb with the \u201cMarianne Ivany Heart for the Arts Volunteer Award.\u201d Instituted in 2018, the award recognizes volunteers who work passionately to promote artistic disciplines at UST.<\/p>\n

The award was named in honor of the University\u2019s former first lady for her tireless efforts during her 13-year tenure to bolster UST\u2019s arts programs, the artistic vibrancy of the University and greater Houston community. Ivany was on hand to present the award to Plumb, her founding co-chair of the Society.<\/p>\n

Student Performances Highlight of Event<\/strong><\/p>\n

Guests at the event also enjoyed performances by UST\u2019s talented arts students: violinist Arturo Bohuchot; violist Hao-Hsuan Lee; baritone Eduardo Katoul Rahbani, who performed \u201cAlmost Like Being in Love,\u201d and tenor Dant\u00e9 Anderson, who sang a selection from \u201cPirates of Penzance.\u201d<\/p>\n
