UST Joins Houston’s NEWEST sports ARENA
UST has launched an esports program on campus to bring an esports social club, varsity team and educational curriculum to its student activity, athletic and academic offerings. The University will offer a minor in esports focused on coaching in fall 2021, teaching students about the industry within an ethical business framework.
Esports (electronic sports) is a form of athletic competition for video games. It often takes the form of organized multiplayer video game competitions between players. Contestants typically compete individually or in teams.
UST is the first university in Houston to have a competitive esports team and an academic program in esports. The varsity team, under the leadership of Assistant Director and Coach of Esports, Justin Pelt, began competing this spring.
“UST is excited to be leading the charge for esports in the Houston area. We’ve already established a great foundation, and look forward to our second year of play in the fall of 2021.” Justin Pelt
