Ever wonder what it\u2019ll be like to live on a college campus? What if you don\u2019t have a car? And just what happens if you don\u2019t spend your entire college meal plan? If you\u2019re anything like me, these are the kinds of questions you\u2019d like answered.<\/p>\n

In my two years at UST, I\u2019ve heard a lot of myths about residence hall living. To clear the air, I caught up with a few of UST residents to ask them what they\u2019ve discovered about student housing.<\/p>\n

Campus Living<\/strong> Myth 1: I will never spend my entire college student meal plan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Julian<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople say you won\u2019t use your complete college meal plan<\/a>, but you will. Some way or another, you\u2019ll either eat it all or someone else will be asking you to use your card.\u201d<\/p>\n

-Julian Fuentes, freshman, double international development and theology major.<\/em><\/p>\n

Our take: Guinan Hall residents are enrolled on the \u201cAll Flex\u201d meal plan option, which includes $1,675\/semester for dining. Young Hall residents may choose the \u201cAll Flex\u201d plan or the \u201cApartment Flex\u201d plan ($600\/semester). <\/em><\/p>\n

Campus Living<\/strong> Myth 2: I will always have to eat food from the cafeteria.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"University<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThe myth about having to only eat cafeteria food is false because we have kitchens in Guinan and in Young Hall. This way, you can make your own food and cooking in college is easier. You don\u2019t have to go and eat Crooker every single day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Our take: In the Celts Marketplace in the Crooker Center, you\u2019ll find everything from veggie burgers to Philly cheesesteaks. Grille Works offers fast casual burgers and sandwiches, while Home Zone is your go-to destination for down-home cooking.<\/em><\/p>\n

Campus Living<\/strong> Myth 3: I have to be back in the residence halls by a certain time every night.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"University<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no curfew in Guinan or on campus, it\u2019s come and go. Curfews only apply to visitation hours; you can\u2019t have people staying past midnight on weekdays or later on weekends.\u201d<\/p>\n

Campus Living<\/strong> Myth 4: Even though I live in a community setting, I won\u2019t know who my neighbors are.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"University<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cRAs host two community university events<\/a> for their residence halls every month. There\u2019s a social, physical and mental health event, educational events, as well as other fun events for college students on campus. It\u2019s up to you if you want to attend any social activities for students.\u201d<\/p>\n

Campus Living<\/strong> Myth 5: There\u2019s nothing to do on the weekends and everyone goes home.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"University<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m from Minnesota, I\u2019ve lived in student housing and I barely ever leave campus, so I\u2019m here on weekends. I always have a good time. I\u2019m either being productive and getting some studying done or I\u2019m just hanging out. I\u2019ll walk around campus and a lot of times there\u2019s university events going on, sporting events, you can go to the gym. We\u2019re in a great area here in Montrose. There are a lot of restaurants and fun things to do outside of campus just within a walking distance. We have a great community here, so a lot of times we\u2019ll just hang out and relax.\u201d<\/p>\n
