Beta Gamma Sigma<\/a> [BGS] is the premier Honor Society and highest recognition for business students world-wide who are pursuing degrees at AACSB accredited business schools, such as our own Cameron School of Business.\u00a0\u00a0 Membership in BGS is permanent with no fees required other than the initial acceptance fee.\u00a0\u00a0 The benefits include \u201cbragging rights\u201d of being a member, opportunities to serve as a leader for our CSB BGS chapter, and opportunities to attend informational meetings and to network with the Houston-wide and world-wide BGS members.<\/p>\n

Facts About Us<\/strong><\/p>\n

The CSB BGS chapter was constituted in the Spring 2011 semester. Our BGS chapter for the Cameron School of Business had 210 members as of the beginning of the Fall 2014 semester. Our roster includes members of the Houston community, UST leadership, CSB faculty, alumni, and current students. Our chapter leadership includes our faculty advisor, Dr. Margaret L. Shelton, and four student member vice-presidents: Dina Alkhamis, Annamarie Dober, Kechi Okwuchi, and Valeria Gonzalez. \u00a0Each of these student leaders has provided invaluable service to our BGS chapter. We extend a very special thanks to Dean George for her unfailing support of and innovative ideas for our BGS chapter.<\/p>\n

Who Can Join<\/strong><\/p>\n

One cannot apply for BGS membership. Students are invited to join based on their academic records at UST. We assess students in each CSB graduate degree program and CSB undergraduate students in their senior, junior or sophomore years. This is a data driven process with the data being provided by the UST Institutional Research department. We look at each student\u2019s number of hours of UST coursework and the number of hours completed towards their degree. From the groups meeting these criteria, we then identify, based on each student\u2019s reported UST GPA, the top 20% of graduate students in each degree and the top 10% of undergraduate students from each class.<\/p>\n

Historically, our chapter has invited students in the spring semester [from fall and spring semesters] to join BGS. For the first time in a fall semester, we invited 46 CSB degree seeking students to become BGS members. Perhaps you were in a class when invitations were delivered! Those students who accept membership will be honored again in the Spring 2015 CSB Awards ceremony. Please join me now in congratulating these top scholars and again in the spring at the awards ceremony which will recognize Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 scholars who have accepted their invitation to join BGS.<\/p>\n
